Top Treatments to Knock Out Acne

Author: J. Brokob

Acne sufferers are always searching for the latest and greatest acne treatment. Some acne suffers are often unable to find treatments that can completely control their acne. The success or failure of available treatments is on a case by case basis.

Many acne sufferers often become frustrated with the ineffectiveness of current treatments. This is especially true with products that are heavily marketed touting incredible results.

Acne sufferers also need to stay informed about what treatments are currently available. The quest for new and better treatments is an ongoing process.

There are a number of treatments that have proven successful. In most cases, your best option is consulting a dermatologist. They can explain the variety of options that are available. It will also be necessary to consult a dermatologist if prescription treatments are warranted.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most widely used over-the-counter acne treatments. It is applied topically in either jell or cream form. There are a number of products available, each containing different amounts of benzoyl peroxide. As some people are sensitive to it, it's best to start with treatments that have the lowest concentration.

Prescription Drugs

Prescription drugs are used in cases of severe acne. Initial drugs were antibiotics that were used to target acne causing bacteria. However, over time these treatments lost their effectiveness as the bacteria developed a resistance to the drugs. One of the more commonly prescribed drugs today is Accutane. However, this is a very strong medication and therefore can only be used by people who suffer from severe and permanent acne. It is taken orally and can have many side effects, including birth defects, dry lips and liver dysfunctions.

Essential Oils

There are also some essential oils with good results in acne curing. These treatments are not very efficient for cases of serious acne. However, they can be successfully used for treating mild to moderate acne. Tea Tree Oil, Bergamot Oil, Lavender Oil and Clove Oil are some of the best essential oils for acne treatment. If the essential oil needs to be diluted, use some grape seed oil to mix it with.

Light Treatment

Light therapy is expensive, but for many very helpful. It involves treatments of light in wavelengths that many believe kills bacteria, and if it does not work, at least does no harm because light at the wavelength used is not harmful to skin.

Sometimes the successful treatment only comes after trying several treatments. Sometimes success lies with a combination of treatments. Use the resources available on the Internet to help you make informed choices. Also consult with your doctor or a dermatologist.
